(Garden Grove, CA) – This morning Supervisor Janet Nguyen, Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, hosted a press conference announcing her support for Republican Congressional Candidate Van Tran (CA-47) at Tran’s Garden Grove campaign headquarters.

“I’m proud to have Supervisor Nguyen’s support for my effort to stop the overspending in Washington DC. We do not always see eye-to-eye on every local issue, but we both wake up every day, looking to work to better our community - And we agree that we cannot let the federal government leave this much debt to the next generation.” said Van Tran.

“At a time of high unemployment, our current Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez isn’t doing middle-class families any favors by rubber-stamping her party’s failed economic policies.”

As Southern California voters head to the polls this fall, they have a perfect opportunity to finally hold Pelosi puppet Loretta Sanchez accountable. Sanchez has a very liberal record which will be hard to defend in a moderate district, during an anti-incumbent year when voters are tired of Washington’s reckless spending sprees and failed economic policies.

In contrast, Van Tran and Supervisor Janet Nguyen have always worked to restore common sense fiscally responsible policies that our economy needs to get back on track. In Congress, Van Tran aims to protect the next generation with fiscally responsible economic policies-instead of bailouts and reckless overspending.

Both Chairwoman Nguyen and Tran come from immigrant backgrounds and have worked to bring our diverse communities together. Loretta Sanchez, on the other hand, recently said, “The Vietnamese and the Republicans are, with an intensity, trying to take away this seat, this seat that we have done so much for our community, take away this seat…”

Janet and Van both know that our community needs leaders who can bring us together so we can work on turning this economy around and creating jobs for all the families in central Orange County.

In addition, both Nguyen and Tran have long fought for fiscal discipline, honoring our veterans and working to create jobs.

The two recently teamed up for a dedication of a Heroes Memorial Monument depicting five significant figures in United States history at Roger Stanton Park, as well as monuments from Mexico and the Republic of Vietnam.

“Janet and I have long fought for fiscal discipline, honoring our veterans and working to create jobs. Over the last few years, in the heat of battle, some things have been said and done that were over the line, even dragging our families into our political disagreements,” said Van Tran. “I have said things that I wish we could take back. But we have come together today because of the historic opportunity we have to change the course of our country, to restore common sense to Congress and to reduce the debt and put people back to work. Our current Congresswoman would rather bury our kids in debt and spend over a TRILLION dollars than work for the betterment of our community. She is too busy dividing people with racial statements and hanging out at the Playboy Mansion to fix our broken economy. I’m proud to bring people together for a higher cause rather than divide our community. Janet’s support here today gives us tremendous encouragement for our chances in November. Our country needs some checks-and-balances on this overspending.”

Tran and Nguyen have a long history with Tran appointing Nguyen to the Garden Grove traffic and planning commission (200-2004) and supporting her run for the Garden Grove City Council seat Tran vacated in 2004 to run for State Assembly. The two have both fought for fiscal discipline and have protested the Vietnamese Prime Minister on visits to the U.S.

Sanchez’s Stimulus Vote Could Cost Her Reelection

Fellow Democrat Congressman Admitted His Vote Could End His Career, Does Sanchez Agree?

Washington- Democrat Congressman Chet Edwards (D-TX) recently admitted that his vote for his party’s failed trillion-dollar stimulus may cost him his reelection. His startling admission should have vulnerable Democrats like Loretta Sanchez – who also supported the legislation – worried that they too will share the same fate. House Democrats promised that their trillion-dollar stimulus would bring economic recovery, but over a year later Americans are facing a daunting unemployment rate of 9.6 percent and an economy that is teetering on the brink of disaster. With Election Day quickly approaching, House Democrats are now desperately trying to defend their destructive economic agenda against angry voters who are ready to hold them accountable this November.

“Election Day is right around the corner and Loretta Sanchez is facing the harsh reality that her failed economic agenda may cost her reelection,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Democrats promised that their trillion-dollar stimulus would result in economic recovery, but instead Americans are now facing one of the worst recessions in history as the economy has taken a turn for the worse. With the cards stacked against her, California voters are ready to send Sanchez a message this November.”

Democrats promised their stimulus would keep unemployment under eight percent, but since the bill’s passage unemployment has hovered close to double digits.

“The jobless rate probably rose in September for a second month as the year-old U.S. recovery failed to generate enough jobs to keep up with a growing labor force, economists said before a report this week.

“Unemployment climbed to 9.7 percent from 9.6 percent in August, according to the median estimate of 62 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News ahead of an Oct. 8 report from the Labor Department.” (“Unemployment in U.S. Probably Rose as Recovery Can’t Generate Enough Jobs,” Bloomberg, 10/4/2010)

As a result of the out-of-touch majority’s failed economic agenda, House Republicans are poised to make large gains this November:

“Gallup’s generic ballot for Congress among registered voters currently shows Republicans with 46% of the vote and Democrats with 43%, similar to the 46% to 46% tie reported a week ago. However, in Gallup’s first estimates among likely voters, based on polling from Sept. 23-Oct. 3, Republicans have a double-digit advantage under two separate turnout scenarios.” (Frank Newport, Jeffrey M. Jones, and Lydia Saad, “GOP Well Positioned Among Likely Midterm Voters,”Gallup, 10/4/2010)

JACL Response to Rep. Sanchez’s Remarks

Washington, D.C. - As the oldest and largest Asian American civil rights organization in the United States, the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) is deeply concerned by the racial overtones in recent remarks made by Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA).

During an interview last week on Univision, Rep. Sanchez said that the Vietnamese and the Republicans are trying to take away the congressional seat she holds and that her opponent, a Vietnamese American, is anti-immigrant and anti-Hispanic.

The use of racial rhetoric has no place in a political campaign. Rep. Sanchez’s use of a broad stroke to characterize the intent of the entire Vietnamese community fails to recognize the diversity of thought that exists in every community.

Every community is damaged when ethnic and racial stereotypes are used in unfair and inaccurate depictions. Rep. Sanchez has stated that she apologizes if she has offended anyone. Unfortunately, this falls short of an unequivocal apology, which recognizes that her comments were clearly wrong.

Townhall.com: Loretta Sanchez’ Vulnerability

A lot has changed in California’s 47th Congressional District since I first wrote about the race between incumbent Democrat Loretta Sanchez and Republican Van Tran.

Having to run a real campaign for the first time in a long while, Sanchez also faces a Hispanic independent candidate on the ballot. Factor in the strong campaign that ‘Young Gun’ Tran is waging, and it all spells trouble for the incumbent this fall.

As a sign the race is slipping away from Sanchez, she recently took to the air waves and attacked the Vietnamese community, accusing them of trying to take her seat.

The fact that a Member of Congress would resort to such a low tactic shows how desperate Sanchez is to cling to power. Maybe if she spent a little less time hobnobbing at the Playboy Mansion and a little more paying attention to her constituents, she could have avoided this situation – but luckily for voters looking for conservative values in their representation, she’s neglected her seat.

With polling numbers showing Tran within the margin of error of Sanchez and non-partisan political handicapper Charlie Cook moving the race from “Likely D” to “Lean D” over the summer, CA-47 is shaping up to be a headache for national Democrats on election night.

Given the recent events in the district and developing position of Van Tran, you’re definitely going to want to keep an eye on this seat. Loretta Sanchez’ Vulnerability This November, frustrated California voters will have an opportunity to put an end to the Loretta Sanchez-Nancy Pelosi agenda.

After voting with her party boss almost 98 percent of the time, Sanchez has repeatedly put partisan politics over her constituents’ best interests. And in a time of high unemployment, Sanchez isn’t doing middle-class families any favors by rubber-stamping her party’s failed economic policies.

As Southern California voters head to the polls this fall, they have a perfect opportunity to finally hold Pelosi puppet Loretta Sanchez accountable. Currently represented by Democrat incumbent Loretta Sanchez, California’s 47th Congressional District covers half of Santa Ana and most of the cities of Garden Grove and Anaheim, all of which are located in Orange County.

The 47th is one of the few districts in California that does not have an overwhelming majority of voters favoring one political party. George W. Bush won the district in 2004, as well as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, in recent elections the district has also supported Democratic state senators and voted for Barack Obama in 2008. Democrat incumbent Loretta Sanchez has her work cut out for her.

Sanchez has a very liberal record which will be hard to defend in a moderate district, during an anti-incumbent year when voters are tired of Democrats’ reckless spending sprees and failed economic policies. While unemployment in California has risen to 12.4%, Sanchez has made her real priority clear – consistently supporting Nancy Pelosi’s misguided healthcare bill, her party’s runaway spending spree and a failed trillion-dollar stimulus...

SANTA ANA – Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez said Friday that her now-famous remark about “Vietnamese” trying to take her seat had been misinterpreted but apologized if it caused any offense.

She did not, however, apologize for calling her Republican challenger Van Tran – himself an immigrant from Vietnam – anti-immigrant…

I was proud to sit down with the Orange County Register’s Brian Calle and talk about the economy, immigration and about my clear commitment to our seniors.

We must never break the promise we have made to our seniors on Social Security.

Sadly, Loretta Sanchez’s out-of-control spending and massive debt that puts our vital commitments like Social Security and Medicare at risk.

CD 47 Watch: Loretta Sanchez (D-Playboy Mansion) “Looks Forward ALL Year to Hunk Night.”

Ever wonder what your member of Congress looks forward to all year? A friend forwarded today’s headline in The Hill about our dear Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

Loretta-Hill

The photo says it all.

Loretta does not have time for debates with Assemblyman Van Tran in the district, but “hunk night” in DC is on her calendar with a permanent marker.

Expect a stiletto heel to be hurled into a wall if any of her aides schedules a policy briefing during “hunk night.” Maybe she wants to spend her last 47 days in office partying like Paris Hilton? I give up trying to figure out Sanchez’s psyche. My gut tells me that Van Tran won’t be this entraining in DC.

But with a 12 percent unemployment rate in California, I would trade a chuckle for actual results. Here is rest of the story about OUR embarrassing member of Congress from Orange County.

THE HILL
Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) was flanked by good-looking male celebrities on Tuesday night, and she said that’s just how she likes it.

Speaking at the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts’s annual Noche de Gala dinner at the Mayflower Hotel, Sanchez took the stage alongside actors Esai Morales (CBS’s “Jericho”) and Jimmy Smits (“The West Wing” and NBC’s “Outlaw”).

“I look forward to this dinner all year,” Sanchez gushed, “because I get to stand next to all these hunks!”

Sanchez looked pretty glamorous herself. Dressed in a floor-length strapless gown with flowers on it, the lawmaker would have been right at home on a Hollywood red carpet.

Or, perhaps, at a Playboy Mansion party (fully dressed, of course) — Sanchez made headlines last month when she met with Hugh Hefner at the mansion for lunch, a meeting that by all accounts was strictly business.
